New on the horizon and bringing more flavour to the music mix is a young female artiste known as Nikki Laoye. The granddaughter of a professional musician and raised in a family atmosphere of notes and tunes, Nikki has always been surrounded with opportunities to hone and develop her musical genes.

Throughout high school, she found herself playing in the school band or participating in musical ensembles and started off professionally with the female group, Soul Sistas, while studying Computer Science at the University of Ibadan in 1999. Now on her own with solo major performances at The Praise Jam & Girl Power Unleashed concerts, with the release of the video of her hit rock single, “Never Felt This Way Before” (with the musical signature of legendary producer, Cobhams), Nikki is set to bring an energetic and refreshing sound to the music industry with her debut album “Angel 4 Life”. Currently topping the Nigerian Top 12 Charts and climbing up the MTV Base charts, This vivacious lady in her mid twenties brings her own brand of diversity into contemporary music. Her unique sound is spiced up in an eclectic mix of influences such as Alternative Rock, R&B, Soul, Hip Hop as she shifts effortlessly between styles while demonstrating strength in songwriting, musical ability and expressions of her faith. According to her, “I am not restricted to any particular style of music. All I want to do is talk about the great God whom I love so much, speak words of life and truth to the soul of man and touch peoples’ lives through my music”.

Nikki is also a Voice Over/Radio Jingle artiste- “Fidelity Bank’s No Greater Feeling, Reltel’s Make it Happen, The Palms Mall@Xmas, MTN’s Xmas GO” are some of the feathers in this talented lady’s cap. Besides, Some recent Nigerian and Ghanaian Home Movies such as Mission 2 Nowhere, Where the Heart Lies, In the Eyes of my Husband, have her vocal signature on their movie soundtracks. This petite shinning star is set to make room for herself in the limitless sky of the music industry. Nikki’s ANGEL 4 LIFE, with featuring artistes such as Jeremiah Gyang, Rooftop MCs, slated for release in a couple of months, is certainly a tour de force to watch out for.
